The Secularist’s Bible and Other Astonishing Absurditiesconfronts America’s church-state crisis through the absurdist wisdom of Stan Biderman, a son of Holocaust survivors who grew up speaking Yiddish with a Texas accent. BookPeople, the largest independent bookstore in the south, will present Biderman, who will be joined in conversation with author Isabella Skrypczak, to celebrate the release of his new book on Saturday, September 26 at 4pm. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is encouraged via Eventbrite.
Biderman has a deep history with Austin: an influential figure in the development of the city since the late 1970s, Stan Biderman was integral in spearheading the revitalization of South Congress, giving it the moniker “SoCo”. Additionally, Biderman served as the counterculture business lawyer of Austin as well as the CEO of Austin’s beloved literary institution BookPeople.
The Secularist’s Bible is at once an urgent clarion call to secular resistance, an absurdist memoir, and a family history of Holocaust survival—unified by one driving imperative: we must unite to defend our democracy from fundamentalist onslaught.
